‘It’s the best thing to cheer with the fans’
07-10-2020
“It is mainly the people who make this region so special “, says soccer player Patrick Herrmann. The attacking player is under contract with the football club Borussia Mönchengladbach and plays for the German national team.
He has been playing for the foal elf since 2008 and has his roots in the Niederrhein. In this interview with Cleverland, Patrick Herrmann explains what he particularly values about this region.
Why do you like to live and work in this region? What makes this region stand out?
The people in particular make this region special, they are very open and friendly. In addition, it is an excellent location strategically. You can be in Düsseldorf or the metropolis of Cologne in no time and you don’t have to travel far to the sea or to vibrant cities in the Netherlands. In that respect, the Lower Rhine region, with Mönchengladbach as an urban, but also cosy centre, is a perfect place to live.
What is the best way to enjoy your free time in Mönchengladbach and its surroundings? What are the hidden gems?
I live in the central part of Mönchengladbach, near the Bunte Garten. There I like to go for walks with my dog and to relax. In the immediate vicinity you find yourself surrounded by green, there are a few beautiful lakes. If you really want to experience something exciting, a visit to BORUSSIA-PARK is always worthwhile. Whether it’s for a football match or a guided tour of FohlenWelt, our club museum. There you can also learn something about the essence of the region.
Borussia and Lower Rhine – What does this connection mean to you?
When I came to Borussia from Saarland as a youngster, I had no idea how much a region can stand behind a club. At school, on the bus, while shopping: Borussia is always the most important topic of conversation. On almost every car, you will find the “diamond shape with the B”- sticker (the Borussia logo). The club is present everywhere in town. Of course, this is also because of its successes in the seventies, but even young people, who did not experience this, are proud of ‘their’ Borussia. That makes the region all the more attractive to me as a football player.
What do you expect from the upcoming season?
Personally, I hope that I will be lined up in many matches and that I will be able to score a few times. There is nothing better than being able to cheer with the fans. As a team we want to play the most successful season as possible in the Bundesliga and Champions League. We certainly have the right quality in our current team.
